Emergency Fund:
Have you ever flipped the switch, but there was no light?
Did you ever turn on the stove, but there was no gas for cooking?
Were you ever forced to have your family wear heavy clothing indoors and wrap in blankets because you had no fuel for heating?
Many of your neighbors are experiencing these and other emergencies now!
No Gas!
No Electricity!
No Fuel!
Some emergencies become a matter of life and death.
They are caused by various problems within a family:
sudden layoffs, reduced hours or loss of job
severe and sometimes lasting illnesses or disabilities
inadequate income
overwhelming expenses
"Can you help us?"
Over and over again we hear this cry.
What Kinds of Emergencies Do We Confront?:
No Heating or Cooking Fuel
No Electricity
No Shelter
No Way to Obtain Essential Prescriptions
No Transportation to Vital Services
When our neighbors are in trouble,
we want to help.
Because of the great need, Fair Haven Concerned established the Emergency
Fund. When we help, we pay a portion of utility balances due DIRECTLY to the
company so that gas, electricity, or fuel deliveries can resume, and people
can live again.
Our Director also aids people in setting up payment schedules, in budgeting to help them make the money they do have go as far as possible, and to help prevent future emergencies. She also refers families to credit counselors to negotiate and consolidate overwhelming debts.
Where
Do You Find the Funds?:
The Town of Fair Haven and The United Way of
Rutland County both provide generous support that allow Fair Haven Concerned
to operate its outreach, coordination, support, advocacy, and referral work.
But not one cent of those funds is used for direct aid.
On the other hand, money contributed to the
Emergency Fund goes to provide direct aid. Churches, businesses, organizations
and individuals all make a difference. The largest source of these funds is
our annual Holiday Gala Fund Raiser. If you would
like to participate, just drop us a line! fhc@sover.net
