Provide Rides:
Drivers from around Fair Haven, and groups in Rutland help local folks get to doctors and medical care, to purchase food or medicine. If you can give a ride locally, to Burlington or Rutland, once a week or once a month, please let us know! You could be a lifesaver for someone!
Sort, Fold Clothes - Oct.
About 50 people spend from four to 40 hours each October sorting and distributing about 4,000 pounds of clothing to more than 1,000 people from more than 25 towns. The fellowship and joyful teamwork thrives among people who care about others, and the sense of accomplishment is even greater. Please contact Julie if you would like to help this year!

Crafts w/ Children - Summer
During our summer nutrition program about 40 children come to the Fair Haven Graded School each day to have a good lunch, enjoy fellowship with caring adults and friends, and participate in fun and enriching experiences. We welcome people who like to help others do crafts or games, folks who have experiences or skills to share with interested children, adults willing to help prepare lunches or bake goodies, or serve or clean up. Each person is a part of investing in our future. The well-fed bodies of children grow healthy, bright minds. Children with adult friends learn to value themselves and others. Work
on Food Shelf
Every weekday the food shelf opens to give a hand to a hungry neighbor or
family. Who knows, it could be any one of us one day. We purchase and store
food, pick up surplus foods nearby or across the state, and distribute nourishing
food to folks who come in need. Some people dedicate one morning each week.
Others help on special days. Lots of help is needed on Wednesdays when we
have the surplus baked goods to share.
Make
Food Baskets
Every December we make Christmas food baskets for up to 450 neighbors so they
will have a hearty holiday meal and a little cheer. We do lots of shopping,
fund raising, packing, and some deliveries. Want to pitch in?
Call
Voters
More than 35 people make about a dozen phone calls just before town meeting
time to be in touch with supporters, tell them of the year's new developments,
and remind them it's time to vote. One year we got funded by a 13 vote margin.
Another year we almost came to an end, as we failed by a similar vote. This
is also a good time to educate and get feedback about joys and concerns, and
to talk with caring neighbors.
Write
Thank You Notes
Lots of people give to the Food Shelf, Emergency Fund and Fair Haven Concerned.
They need a touch of appreciation and encouragement. Our note writers give
just that boost.
Gather
Petition Signatures
Every year Fair Haven Concerned must obtain more than 100 signatures on petitions
in order to be included on the town ballot. One year we failed to get town
funds and nearly went out of business. So every November we're out with petitions.
Want to help?
Register
Voters
Many of our supporters and clients have not registered to vote. We seek people
to be in touch with these friends and sign them up. A notary public or justice
of the peace can register folks, or anyone can arrange to take a person to
the Town Clerk's and register. Voting also gives people a sense of power and
participation in our community.
Post Posters
and Publicize Events
When we do special events like the Winter Gala, or the Summer Nutrition program, we need to get the word out. Would you help post posters, prepare mailings, or perhaps write publicity?
