| The salt shed in Rutland was one of the busiest switching
destinations through the spring of 2000. It is situated in the middle of the wye, and its spur
track crosses the north leg of that wye. This means any line of hoppers spotted there for unloading
must be separated at least at Amtrak train time to allow the passenger
train to turn around. I have seen no car unloading activity here during the winter of 2000-2001. The conveyor is rusted and near collapse. The salt apparently is being delivered elsewhere, and this switching activity may now be history.
