Cantaloupe or Musk Melon

Cucumis melo xSweet'n'Early

When God’s people turned against the Lord, their country (Zion) fell apart. “And daughter Zion is left like a booth in a vineyard, like a shelter in a cucumber [melon] field, like a besieged city.” - Isaiah 1:8
Caper Bush

Capparis spinosa

Ecclesiastes reminds us, "the grasshopper drags itself along and desire fails; because all must go to their eternal home, and the mourners will go about the streets." Desire is translated as caper, which comes after the flower fades. As our earthly life fades will we leave fruit?
Carob (pod)

Ceratonia siliqua

Are you hungry? Will God feed you? The prodigal son, "would gladly have filled himself with the pods that the pigs were eating; and no one gave him anything." Luke 15:16 Then he came to his senses and came home!
Castor Bean (oil) Plant

Ricinus Communis

God comforts us, and comforts pass. “The LORD God appointed a bush, and made it come up over Jonah, to give shade over his head... so Jonah was very happy... But when dawn came up the next day...” -Jonah 4: 6-7 Do you know passing comforts?
Cattail, Dwarf

Typha minima

God spoke judgment against Egypt... “its canals will become foul, and the branches of Egypt's Nile will diminish and dry up, reeds [cattails] and rushes will rot away.” -Isaiah 19:6 Where is God’s judgment today?
Cattail, Reed-Mace

Typha australis Schum. et Thonn.

“When [Moses’ mother] could hide him no longer she got a papyrus basket for him, and plastered it with bitumen and pitch; she put the child in it & placed it among the reeds on the bank of the river.” -Exodus 2:3 What part of your life is waiting in the reeds?
Cedar, Arbor Vitae

Thuja accidentalis

Imagine the aroma inside Solomon’s temple for God. “ He lined the walls of the house on the inside with boards of cedar; from the floor of the house to the rafters of the ceiling, he covered them on the inside with wood...” 1Kings 6:15
Chamomile, Dog

Anthemis sp.

A flower of the field... “A voice says, "Cry out!" And I said, "What shall I cry?" All people are grass, their constancy is like the flower of the field. “ - Isaiah 40:6
Chamomile, Dyers

Anthemis tinctoria

We, like the chamomile, come and go... “The grass withers, the flower fades; but the word of our God will stand forever. “ Isaiah 40:8
Chicory

Cichorium intybus

At Passover, God's people were told, "... eat the lamb that same night... eat it roasted over the fire with unleavened bread and bitter herbs." Exodus 12:8 At Passover every year faithful people share the bitter herbs during the Seder supper as a reminder of God's saving work
Chick Pea; Garbanzo Bean; Provender

Cicer arietinum

During the exile, Prophet Isaiah offered hope. The people and animals will be blessed by God. “The oxen likewise and the young asses that ear the ground shall eat clean provender, which hath been winnowed with the shovel and with the fan.” -Isaiah 30:24
Coriander

Coriandrum sativum

God fed the people in the wilderness with manna. “Now the manna was like coriander seed...” -Numbers 11:7
Thistle; Cornflower, Persian

Centaurea dealbata

God wants our full loyalty!
“The high places of Aven, the sin of Israel, shall be destroyed. Thorn and thistle shall grow up on their altars. They shall say to the mountains, ‘Cover us,’ and to the hills, ‘Fall on us.’ -Hosea 10:8
What things in this world
have become the focus of your worship?
Cotton

Gossipium herbaceous

A small detail in the inspiring story of Esther tells us that the curtains in the royal palace where she lived and risked her life for the people of faith were composed of cotton, the harvest of our cotton plant. - Esther 1:5-6
Crocus, Saffron

Crocus sativum

God’s people experience times of judgment before God, and gracious times of blessings from the Lord when "the wilderness and the dry land shall be glad, the desert shall rejoice and blossom; like the crocus." Isaiah 35:1
Cumin

Cuminum cyminum

Leaders are not to be too overbearing... “Do those who plow for sowing plow continually?... When they have leveled its surface, do they not scatter dill, sow cumin...” -Isaiah 28:24f
Cumin, Black; Love-in-a-Mist; Nigella

Nigella sativa

Leaders must temper their judgments... “Dill is not threshed with a threshing sledge, nor is a cart wheel rolled over cumin; but dill is beaten out with a stick, and cumin with a rod. Grain is crushed for bread, but one does not thresh it forever...” - Isaiah 28:27f
