Solomon decorated God’s temple with open flowers... “He carved the walls of the house all around about with carved engravings of cherubim, palm trees, and open flowers, in the inner and outer rooms...” 1 Kings 6:29

The bitter herbs eaten at Passover... “They shall eat the lamb that same night; they shall eat it roasted over the fire with unleavened bread & bitter herbs.” -Exodus 12:8

When the Hebrews settled the Promised land, each tribe received land. One town given to the tribe of Judah was named Dilean, which is translated as “gourd.” “The towns belonging to the tribe of the people of Judah in the extreme South, toward the boundary of Edom, were... These blooms last only one day. They ask us, “How long will you be here? Are you fully alive to savor this day?” “Let the believer who is lowly boast in being raised up, and the rich in being brought low, because the rich will disappear like a flower in the field.” -James 1:9-10

When Job was in despair he lost his appetite. “Can that which is tasteless be eaten without salt, or is there any flavor in the juice of mallows? My appetite refuses to touch them; they are like food that is loathsome to me.” -Job 6:6-7

Hyacinthus orientalis

This highly perfumes spring bloomer is widespread in the Holy Land. “I belong to my beloved and my beloved to me, who pastures his flock among the hyacinth.” Song 6:3 (Goodspeed)
Hyssop

Hyssopus officinalis

With Hyssop (cousin of oregano) Hebrews marked their homes with blood of the Lamb. “Go, select lambs for your families, and slaughter the passover lamb. Take a bunch of hyssop, dip it in the blood that is in the basin, and touch the lintel and the two doorposts...” -Exodus 12:21-22a
