High-Speed Access (PHSA)
Personal High-Speed Access-Basic
and Personal High-Speed Access-Plus are G.Lite flavors of Asymmetric
Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL). ADSL provides downstream and
upstream speeds that are at different, asymmetric, rates. These accounts
are suitable for most home and small business users. Note that as a
client-only service, web servers, mail servers, and other enterprise
functions are not available with PHSA. If your needs include such activities,
our Business High-Speed Access accounts offer the
perfect solution, and include other features not available with PHSA.
As with other DSL technologies, our PHSA products are sensitive to
distance and qualifying depends on your distance from the local telephone
companys
central office.
These accounts, like our other broadband accounts, are not available
via an online signup form, as your line needs to be qualified relative
to its ability to carry the service. Call today, we can tell you if
it's available in your area, ascertain within a few minutes whether
your lines will qualify for it, and answer any questions you may have.
PHSA-basic and PHSA+ are designed specifically for the residential/home-office
user who wants a full-time connection at speeds faster than currently
available via a 56k modem. Internet sharing is an option for multiple
computers sharing a PHSA connection, but is not something we can provide
technical support for. As this is a home-based service, we will be happy
to assist you in getting one computer online, but any additional Internet
sharing remains your responsibility.
PHSA accounts include:
- One dynamic,
non-routable, IP Address
- Primary email address with 10MB of space
- WebMail
- Browser-accessible
Account Management Tools
- Spam Controls & Virus Filtering
- Up to $15-worth of free optional features
Pricing: Fees
include the cost of the circuit/line.
PHSA-Basic—Speeds
up to 2000k downstream/256k upstream
- Setup: $100
- Monthly: $37.44
PHSA-Plus—Speeds
up to 2000k downstream/256k upstream; includes separate dialup access
for remote or backup use, also includes 2 free hours per month of National
Roaming access
PHSA Modems
These
accounts require G.Lite/ADSL modems which will be compatible with our
network. We have ADSL-compatible modem available for purchase. Note
that this equipment list may change as we are always testing new modems
and looking for the best option to offer. Dont hesitate to ask
if there are other, recently added, modem options available.
Modem ships with an Installation Kit which includes the
modem, AC-adapter (if used); RJ-11 phone cord; USB &/or RJ-45 Ethernet
cable (USB for PC machines only); phone-line filters; and instructions.
Feel free to contact us with any questions of a general technical nature.
Cost of unit: $92 (+ tax)

MONITORED
BROADBAND ACCOUNTS
These accounts are structured for those who need
a full-time, dedicated, high-speed connection to the Internet. All dedicated
accounts include a separate Multi-User Dialup Account and all that comes
with it as described above, 24/7 monitoring, and routable IP addresses
as reasonably necessary to route the network.
Dedicated accounts involve two different types of costs: port, and circuit.
The port cost is for the bandwidth used for the transmission of data
across our system. The circuit cost is for the physical circuit that
must be installed at your location for your equipment to plug into.
Business
High-Speed Access (BHSA)
Our Business High-Speed Access is based
on Symmetric Digital Subscriber Line (SDSL), a modem technology
that transforms ordinary copper lines into digital lines allowing high-speed
Internet access delivered at great savings. This service can replace
the more expensive, traditional Frame Relay and Point-to-Point T1s
currently in use. Download and upload speeds are the same, starting
at 416k and continuing up to 1568k.
The speed that a DSL line can handle is very sensitive to distance from
our POP. Typically, this service can only be offered to an outer perimeter
of 2-3 miles from each of our SDSL capable POP locations.
As with any always-on Internet connection, security issues
should be considered since these types of connections are more prone
to hacking attempts than dialup connections. For a stand-alone workstation,
we advise that you 'un-share' everything on your computer while connected
to an SDSL modem. An SDSL router can be configured to provide a greater
level of security than with the SDSL modem. Still, additional security,
such as a personal firewall, might be well considered.
When connecting a LAN via SDSL, as with any other dedicated connection,
we recommend that you speak with a Network Security Consultant to be
sure that your questions are answered before connecting with SDSL. In
some cases it may be necessary to implement a firewall or other protective
measures between the LAN and the Internet.
Our BHSA accounts are suitable for running enterprise functions such
as mail or web servers. At this time, we do not provide consulting for
networks, so you'll want to be sure you have a qualified network professional
onboard to help you with internal set ups.
All BHSA accounts include separate Dialup Access, capable of sustaining
2 simultaneous logins, or a 128k ISDN dual-channel connection, and
2 free hours of National Roaming access. This can be
particularly useful when remote access is needed.
Pricing: Payable
by check, credit card, or electronic funds transfer (ACH/EFT).
Monthly fees depend on the account speed-level, and include cost of
the line. Contact us for specific pricing, depending on the speed.
- Set up for all
the regular BHSA accounts is $400
- Several speed
levels are available, 468k to 1568k
We also have an
IDSL product that will provide 144k DSL access over fiber.
Modem/Routers We offer two pre-configured pieces of equipment for purchase
or rent.
- SDSL Modem$240/purchase;
$20.99/month rent.
- SDSL Router$499/purchase;
$43.64/month rent. An option for customers who wish to connect
multiple computers to their BHSA circuit.

Point-to-Point
Point-to-Point is a dedicated connection using a non-switched private
circuit. The pricing is mileage sensitive because the connection is a direct
physical line from us to the customer. Point-to-Point circuits are available
into our Bellows Falls and Burlington POPs.
Accounts
include 24/7 monitoring, a separate Multi-User Dialup Account for
secondary or remote access.
These
accounts are quoted on an individual basis. Please contact our Sales
Team for a consultation and a quote specific to your needs. (877) 877-2120

ADDITIONAL
SERVICES
We
offer a variety of add-on services which can be purchased for adding
functionality to, or increasing capacity of, your account. Fees are
added to your main account and paid for in the same fashion as that
account, with any available discounts applied.

ROAMING
ACCESS
We provide you with
2 ways to access your account while vacationing or on the road: Roaming
and Remote Dial-In. Each has it's own niche, but they supplement
each other nicely.
Note:
with either service, be sure to return your dialer to a local 7-digit
SoVerNet access number when you return so you don't pay long distance
or Remote Dial-In charges!
National
Roaming
(Note: Use of Roaming numbers requires changes to your dialer set up.
Read through the info below and click the setup links to see what needs
to be done.)
Two hours
per month of National Roaming are included with all our base login
accounts! We have 12,000 numbers across the country for just about
all of the lower 48 and Hawaii (Iowa is pending, as is Alaska). There
is no need to take the time to sign up for it and wait for it to be
addedit's
right there, ready to go when you are! If you run over the 2-hour allotment,
there will be a $7 charge that monthan email notice of the charge
due will be emailed to the primary account name. Note:
the 2 free hours are shared by the primary account and all email-only
subaccounts.
If there's any chance
you'll run over the included 2 hours, National Roaming-300 is available,
for up to 300 hours per-month of access, as an Additional Service. The
charge is a flat $5 per-month regardless of how much access time is
used. Add it and forget the clock (at least, for 300 hours)!
Before
you can use a Roaming number you need to make changes to your dialer's
number and login settings so you can be authenticated
when dialing in. Some localities require only a 7-digit number for local
as (as in Vermont) others may need 10 digits (area code + 7 digits),
still others want a full 11-digit number whether local or LD (1 + area
code + number). We've provided a local check procedure for you as well,
so you can see if a number in any specific spot is considered to be
a local call, regardless of number of digits required for dialing it.

Remote
Dial-in
For long-distance
access where there is no Roaming number available, or for those who
move around a lot and don't want to fuss with constantly changing access
numbers, we offer a Remote Dial-In Service via an 888 number. Travelers
can take advantage of this dial-in number to access SoVerNet from anywhere
in the continental US or Canada. The cost of Remote Dial-In service
is $.11/minute, billed in full-minute increments, with a minimum charge
of $1.00 if the service is used during the month. Payment will be by
the method currently selected for payment of your Internet service account.
Confirmation of the charges will be emailed to your main SoVerNet account
each month. When you sign up, your confirmation will include the 888
number to be used.
