THIS BEAUTIFUL BOX RISES ABOVE YOUR AVERAGE PANTRY BOX. IT'S VERY EARLY. PERHAPS 18TH CENTURY OR EARLY 19TH MADE OF ASH AND PINE WITH EXTRA LONG BEVELED FINGERS AND FASTENED WITH HAND MADE IRON NAILS AND WOODEN PEGS. IT IS HEAVY AND WITHOUT DAMAGE. IT HAS A SPLASH OF OLD DARKENED GLUE NEAR THE BOTTOM ON ONE SIDE AS SHOWN. EVEN THE TOP AND BOTTOM ARE BEVELED AROUND THE EDGE AS ARE THE FINGERS . I WOULD CALL THE COLOR A DARK PUTTY OR TAUPE. THE COLOR IS ONE OF THE THINGS I LOVE THE MOST. IT HAS A SOFT PLEASING PRESENCE. THE ONE AND ONLY COLOR IT EVER HAD ALTHOUGH MOST OF IT HAS WORN OFF THE TOP. THE TOP HAS A WONDERFUL AGE PATINA THAT MAKES THE PAINT WEAR NOT VERY OBVIOUS. THE TOP MEASURES 8 1/2 ACROSS, THE BOTTOM 8 1/4. THIS IS A VERY SPECIAL BOX. $750.00

18th c. trade sign from the Clermont House Clermont New York. This rare tavern and hotel sign came from a building built in 1792 in Clermont and is still standing today. Over the years as with most tavern signs it has been painted over whenever a new owner took over. Upon close examination there is remnants of a seahorse painted under the eagle and stars but the most recent paint on the sign looks to be at least 130 to 150 years old. Overall measures 67 1/2" high by 36 1/4" across and is two sided with the side that faced the south a little more worn. PRICE ON REQUEST
