This
month we'll be featuring the city of Montreal. A
little unknown fact is that the inn is only 90
minutes from this spectacular city.
Many of our guests, while staying at the inn,
plan day trips to Montreal and we are able to
provide them with information on events,
festivals, shopping, maps, etc. Jacquie is
originally from Montreal, and is therefore an
excellent resource. For more information
you can link to Montreal
E-Guide, a comprehensive guide with
everything you need to know before and while
visiting this cosmopolitan city.
If you would like us to feature information
on a particular interest of yours, we'd be glad
to hear from you.

Grandma's Treat
An
old recipe, which was prepared by the
farmer's wife in the evening,
and baked it in the morning while
finishing chores in the barn.
Yield: 8 servings
9 eggs beaten
2 cups milk
2 teaspoons vanilla
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 cup maple syrup
1 1/2 loaves of 1" cubed bread
TOPPING
1 cup melted butter
2 cups brown sugar
3 tablespoons maple syrup
2 cups of chopped walnuts
- In a large bowl, combine
eggs, milk, vanilla, cinnamon, maple
syrup, mix well.
- Grease a 9 X 13 baking dish. Fill
the dish with cubed bread slices. so
the bottom is covered, and fill to
the top.
- Pour the egg mixture over the
cubed bread, cover and refrigerate
overnight.
- In the morning, mix the topping
ingredients, and spread evenly over
the cubed bread.
- Heat oven to 350 F and bake until
puffed and golden, about 1 hour.

Hi Again
Folks:
Regular readers of my column know how
happy I am to be here at the Inn. I'm
treated just as well as the guests -
maybe even better. My folks think of me
as a son - not an adopted son. I really
lead a dog's life.
I suppose though it's just doggie nature
to have at least one complaint. It's
simply this. Every month Jacquie offers
a wonderful recipe in the space next to
mine. In fact, next to my monthly
musings, it's the most popular part of
the newsletter. And that's fine. But
what of those doggie readers and guests
? We eat. We have appetites. We have
discriminating tastes (if you don't
believe me, just check out your dog's
reaction when you place before him
Kibbles and Bits rather than Iams).
Aren't we entitled now and then to a
recipe directed to us ? I think so. As a
result of some humilitating begging on
my part, the folks have allowed me to
submit a recipe - it's a real knockout -
and healthy too.
So now that I have vented my feelings I
submit the following for your dog's
approval.
ISHAM'S TREAT-Peanut
Butter Crunches
- 3
Cups Whole Wheat Flour
- 1/2
Cups Rolled Oats
- 2
Teaspoons Baking Powder
- 1
1/2 Cups Milk
- 1
1/4 Cups Peanut Butter
- 1
Tablespoon Molasses
Preheat
the oven to 350 degrees.
Combine the flour, oats and baking
powder in a large bowl. In a blender or
food processor, mix milk, peanut butter
and molasses until smooth and add to dry
ingredients. Kneed the ingredients
together using your hands. Roll dough
out to desired thickness and cut with
cookies cutters. Bake for about 20
minutes. Check while cooking and turn if
needed.

| DAY
TRIPS TO MONTREAL |
 |
|
Surrounded
by water and brightened by 650 parks and
green spaces, Montréal's island city is
many cities in one. The second largest
French-speaking city in the world, Montréal
is a great combination of old world
charm and big city excitement.
Explore one of the city's many
quartiers; the artistic Plateau
Mont-Royal, and the Latin Quarter with
its colorful wall murals, mansard roofs,
spiraling stairs and outdoor cafes; the
multi-ethnic Main, Chinatown with its
pagodas and apothecaries, Little Italy
with its markets and cappucino shops.
Take a ride in a horse drawn carriage,
or spend an afternoon exploring the
city's chic boutiques and bistros. Ride
the métro, drop by the
Insectarium for a look at rare insects
from more than 100 countries, or visit
the island playground of Parc des Îles
with its beach, cycling paths and
amusement park.
Montréal is a hot spot for talent in
all the arts: visual arts, music, dance,
comedy, theater and cultural festivals.
It is also a world film-making capital.
Choose from one of the city's hundreds
of restaurants, or head to the Casino de
Montréal, one of the ten largest in the
world.
