Dear Brad, WINTER--
DID YOU KNOW!
As
those winter winds approach, we know many of you
are beginning to think about winter getaways,
either for a couple of days or for perhaps a week
during President's Week vacation. So we thought
we'd bring a few of our winter "Did you
knows" to your attention.
1)
We have miles of cross country trails on our
property.
2)
We offer complimentary snow shoes.
3)
We are only a 35 minute drive (winter driving)
from Smuggler's Notch, rated the best family ski
area in the East.
4)
Cross country skiis can be rented by the day only
15 minutes from here.
5)
After a long outdoor day, when you're hungry but
don't want to fight the cold, we have Jacquie's
homemade pizza, soft drinks, snacks, beer and
wine.
A
reminder that during November and December we
have a "special" where for each two
night stay (only for those on our email list), we
are providing a gift certificate to Jeff's Maine
Seafood in the amount of $ 25.00. A number of
those certificates are now here waiting for our
guests to arrive.
A
happy Thanksgiving to all of you and many thanks
for your patronage and loyalty. It's the warm
response from all of you that gives us so much
pleasure.

| ISHAM'S
CORNER |
 |
I'm told that Thanksgiving is just around
the corner. Isn't that the time when huge
amounts of turkey get dropped to the
floor ?
So here are some of my thanks:
Thanks to so many of you who brought dogs
for me to play with. And further thanks
to those of you who allowed me to bunk
out with your dog (either through your
invitation or my insistence).Thanks
to our cats who love to run - thus giving
me an excuse to chase.
Thanks
to Dad for getting Gismo. We've really
become great buddies.
Thanks
to guests who tolerated our occasional
mischief in the morning - just when it's
time for breakfast.
Thanks
to guests, such as Tom Molloy, who bring
us great treats.
And
thanks to those guests who take Gismo and
me on long walks in the woods. We make
sure none of you get lost.

| IT'S
THAT TIME AGAIN! |
 |
Didn't I
just take down the lights and decorations
? It seems like only yesterday. Soon the
calls will be coming in inquiring about
gift certificates.
Each
year our guests call for gift
certificates to give for the holidays,
corporate gifts and thank you's. Several
realtors regularly give gift certificates
as a thank you for clients who have
bought or sold a home. Since these
certificates have been paid for, I think
it only appropriate for them never to
expire, though of course they are always
subject to availability.
November
and December also seem to be the months
for corporate and non-profit retreats.
This year we have four scheduled, ranging
in size from 6 to 20. For a fee of $70,
they have use of the sunroom, dining room
and we provide coffee, juice and muffins.
Their meals are catered from the outside.

Vermont Legend |
 |
In
their constant search for Morris
the Moose, guests have been
promised a gallon of maple syrup
if they sight him on the many
hiking trails located on our
expansive 400 acre property. He
was once sighted by a guest
standing by the outdoor hot tub. But
what about Champ?
What
if Champ exists-seen on many
different occasions,there is a
healthy population of these
animals living in Lake Champlain.
The
most frequently asked question:
What is Champ? Champ was seen as
a Lizard like long-necked animal
with four legs and feet, a forked
tongue, omits a hissing noise,
loves the shallow waters but seen
on land, eats small fish, and is
about twelve inches at birth and
twenty feet or more full grown.
Oh, and very ugly.
Thousands
of people, dating all the way
back to the Abenaqi Indians,
claim to have seen the creature.
The first recorded sighting took
place when Samuel de Champlain
came upon the lake in July 1609.
During this expedition, the
French explorer noted "a
20-foot serpent, with a
horse-shaped head and body as
thick as a keg." Since then,
sightings of the strange aquatic
beast have been reported by over
300 people.
In
recent times, hundreds of people-
boaters, picnickers, swimmers-
claim they have seen one of these
animals. But no one has ever
caught a live Champ. Or have
they? In 1954 a 14" long
reptile was captured in Shelburne
Bay. There is an early account of
one being captured and tied up to
a public dock in Burlington. It
was described as "a
baby."
In
1976 a lizard like animal was
caught by a Vergennes man. It was
twelve inches long, held itself
up on four sturdy legs, omitted a
hissing sound and had a forked
tongue.
The
moral of the story, pick a spot
to search from and stick with it.
Act normal, it's consistency that
counts. Who knows you may become
an old friend of
Champtanystropheus, and if a true
friend they might let you take
their picture.
