GIZMO'S GOSSIP
Hi again everyone. Gizmo
here.
"Pineapple-Cheddar Strata
Here's a
luscious, sweet strata that's made slightly savory with the addition of
shredded sharp cheddar cheese. The strata can be assembled and
refrigerated overnight.
North Hero- July 13 - August 27, Hermann's Royal Lipizzan Stallions, world famous for their equestrian ballet, are in residence each summer in the scenic Champlain Islands of Vermont. The Royal Lipizzan Stallions of Austria are among the oldest breeds of horses in the world. They perform in a new arena in Knight Point State Park, a 55-acre preserve with a sandy beach and nature trails. Lipizzan horses perform in outdoor arena. Islands Center at Knight Point State Park (Knight Point State Park, Route 2), Thursday 5 pm, Friday 6 pm, Saturday & Sunday 2:30 pm. - The dancing white stallions have thrilled audiences with their "airs above the ground" for decades and the family has owned and trained horses for 300 years. The Lipizzan is a rare and unique breed; its history and culture is known worldwide. The Walt Disney movie The Miracle of the White Stallions, depicting General George S. Patton saving them at the end of World War II from certain extinction, created an even greater world-wide interest in the Lipizzaner breed. Had it not been for Patton, there would be no Lipizzans today. Audiences are welcome to visit the horses before and after performances. |
A New Experience
Hi,
When we reach the 60's it's naturally more difficult to live a new
experience. Yet my family found a unique way for me to celebrate
Father's Day.
Blindfolded I was placed in a car and driven for 45 minutes to (what turned out to be Grand Isle) to meet a former Delta pilot who operates airborne tours from his lakefront property. After a short introduction and instructions we boarded his WW II era Piper Cub pontoon plane and quickly took off. Within moments I was flying "solo". Well, not completely solo. Not only was he sitting behind me just in case, but my size, combined with the plane's lack thereof resulted in my being unable to straighten my legs so as to operate the foot controls. We quickly crossed the lake heading to Fairfax so I could buzz the inn. Much to my surprise, it was not quite as easy to navigate by sight as I had imagined. However, I finally succeed and made several passes.
We then returned to the lake for a little sightseeing, flying at
altitudes as high as a thousand and as low as 100 feet. Though wind
conditions slightly increased my difficulties in control it really
was not a problem.
!
Viewing Vermont from the air gave a completely different perspective of my surroundings. I saw farms, buildings, water and structures near the inn I never knew were there. I followed the Lamoille River for the first time and saw some magnificent homes. I hope some of our guests in the coming months will take the PS My time in the air is "official" should I want to get my pilot's license. VERMONT EVENTS July 2006
