A Halloween Tale |

The
Legend of Buck Hollow
According
to legend, centuries ago, before there
was an inn (pre Isham), this area was
inhabited by the Abenaki Indians. Among
their beliefs was that Moose were sacred,
to destroy one would result in God's
vengeance upon the entire tribe. A young
brave was in love with the chief's
daughter. Unfortunately, it was not to
be. The chief disapproved of the brave
and refused to allow a marriage. In an
act of angry revenge the brave, using a
tomahawk, decapitated a female moose
(Maureen) within close proximity of where
our hot tub is currently located. The
massacre took place under a full moon on
what is now Halloween night and was
witnessed by Maureen's mate Morris.
Ever
since, Morris has spent Halloween nights
seeking his own revenge and hoping to
find Maureen's head (or at least her
spirit). Guests using the hot tub on that
night report strange sounds and
rustlings. Isham refuses to leave the
house on Halloween, while unusual
shadows, resembling a headless moose have
been seen in our fields.

Hi
again folks. When I was only 6 weeks old,
my 7 litter mates and I were
unceremoniously brought to the Humane
Society. By the next morning I was the
only one left when Dad, Kate and Mark
walked in. I made myself as cute as
possible so they took me home. Since
then I have always wondered about my
siblings. Little did I know that 2 months
later Dad happened to find out about one
of my brothers and that for two years he
worked tirelessly in the hope of
reuniting us.
HE
DID IT. GIZMO HAS ARRIVED.
We've had a few sharing issues to sort
out and the cats have expressed a few
opinions of their own, but all in all it
has really gone well. Gizmo is even more
affectionate than me, and always is
racing with me to see who can be the
first to greet a guest at the car. We
can't wait to see you.

As
the tourist season draws to a close,
dealers, collectors and homeowners turn
their attention to the holidays. More
tables are sold by dealers during the
next two months than at any other time.
Brad always keeps an ample supply, either
in the barn or in the group shops of
which he is a part.
The
1829 House in Jeffersonville and the
Champlain Valley Antique Shop in
Shelburne (4067 Shelburne Rd) both carry
a good supply of tables.
In
addition, Tom Cross at the Champlain
Valley Antique Center does a fabulous job
in creating and crafting tables to your
own specifications. So whether you're a
dealer, gift buyer or table seeker, now
is the perfect time to root through
Vermont shops.

HAS ARRIVED! |

| Foliage
has been spectacular, guests have
marveled at the colors both on and around
the Inn, and there was a possible
sighting of Morris the Moose. Now however
thoughts are turning to Halloween - can
Christmas be far behind ? And speaking of
Christmas. What a terrific time to think
of doing some of that shopping in
Vermont, particularly for Canadians. As
this is written the Canadian dollar is at
a decade's high against our dollar (74
cents). Shopping
opportunities abound at such places as
T.J. Maxx, Marshall's, Costco, Brook's
Brothers, the Essex Outlet Fair, the
malls and others. We'll be pleased to
guide you while you're here. Add to that
our Canadian at par offer between
November 1 and June 30 and you can expect
a fun, inexpensive and productive
shopping expedition in Vermont. Ho Ho Ho

Cut into squares and serve
with maple syrup.
Non-stick cooking spray
12 slices of Texas toast, crusts
removed
(cut in 1 inch cubes or 12 cups
cubed, trimmed challah)
1 8 oz package cream cheese, cut
into small cubes
2 cups fresh or frozen
blueberries
9 eggs, beaten
2 cups milk and 1/2 cup of maple
syrup 1)
Coat a 3 quart rectangular baking
dish with cooking spray; set
aside. Place bread cubes in
prepared dish. Top with cream
cheese and the blueberries. (At
this point, you can cover and
chill up to 24 hours.)
2)
Preheat oven to 350 F. In a large
bowl combine eggs, milk, and 1/2
cup maple syrup. Whisk until
combined. Slowly pour the egg
mixture over blueberry and bread
mixture to evenly moisten the
bread.
3)
Bake 40-45 minutes or until a
knife inserted near the center
comes out clean. If necessary,
cover with foil the last 10
minutes of baking to prevent over
browning. Let stand 10 minutes
before serving. Cut into squares.
Serve with maple syrup. Serves
