Hi,

As mentioned previously, we are hosting our first annual BHF Vermont
photography contest this fall. All subscribers to this newsletter
are eligible and invited to participate. The rules are simple and few.

1) All photographs must be taken in the State of Vermont between
now and October 20.
2) Photographs must be received by us via email on or before October 25.
3) No more than two photographs are to be submitted by any subscriber.
4) Photographs need to be labeled as to location.

We have assembled a crack team of secret judges whose decision shall
be announced in the November newsletter (sent near the end of
October). Each of the two winners shall receive a free two night
stay at the inn. We'll try to create a separate web page with a
link from the October newsletter to display as many of these
photographs as possible.

In addition to our homemade pizza, we have expanded our menu to include a "Pasta Dinner". Dinner includes, rolls, tortellini or penne entree (choice of sauces), with our homemade maple ice cream. If you have a special occasion to celebrate, we also offer a fondue dinner, complete with salad, wine, dessert and coffee. Let us know when you book your reservation that you'd like to add the Fondue Dinner.

Sausage & Egg Pizza

Ready-to-serve pizza crusts make it easy to put together this morning meal.

1 package (8 ounces) frozen brown-and-serve pork sausage links, cut into 1/2-inch pieces

4 ready-to-serve pizza crusts, 6 inches in diameter

1 1/2 cups shredded Cheddar cheese (6 ounces)

6 eggs, beaten

1 Heat oven to 400°F. Spray 10-inch nonstick skillet with cooking spray; heat over medium heat. Cook sausage in skillet about 3 minutes, stirring occasionally, until brown; drain. Remove sausage from skillet; set aside.

2 Pour eggs into skillet. As mixture begins to set at bottom and side, gently lift cooked portions with spatula so that thin, uncooked portion can flow to bottom. Do not stir. Cook 4 to 5 minutes or until eggs are thickened throughout but still moist.

3 Place pizza crusts on ungreased cookie sheets. Sprinkle with half of the cheese. Top each with eggs and sausage. Sprinkle with remaining cheese. Bake 10 to 12 minutes until cheese is melted. Servings: 4

Gizmo here !

Frequently I have heard guests asking where I get material for my monthly ramblings. Believe me. It ain't always easy. It's embarrassing to ask dad for a story or two so I usually avoid that (though he can always be counted upon for a knee slapping story).
Usually I hang around guests and eavesdrop. After all, like the
homeless, us dogs are invisible and supposedly don't understand anyhow.

How else to explain a guest wondering "What do the ski areas do with
the man made snow after the natural snow melts ?" I tried to tell
them that they simply vacuum it up but choked on my words.

Or the other guest who asked "How old does a deer need to be before
it becomes a moose ?" Seriously. I heard it with my own floppy ears.

Or another guest (this is the end) who wondered why Vermont doesn't
arrange to have foliage later in October like most other states.
Enough said.

SShhhhh ! Don't tell anyone. I am one of the secret judges. So
treat me well.

FOLIAGE DRIVING TOUR

Suggestions for fall foliage road tours in the Champlain Lowlands and Northern Green Mountains.

This would be a great fall foliage day trip. It's very diverse with mountains, rivers, rolling farmland, islands, beautiful villages, covered bridges and places to shop and/or have lunch.

Your trip starts in the tiny village of Cambridge. Head north in route 108 to Enosburg Falls. In Enosburg Falls Route 108 meets route 105. Take 105 west past the junctions of 105 & 236 and 105 & 110 to the junction of 105 & 78. Proceed onto route 78. This will take you through the village of Swanton and into the Champlain Islands. Drive down through the Island on Route 2. This will bring you all the way through the islands. You will pass through the towns and villages of: Alburg, Grand Isle and South Hero and eventually you will be brought back onto the mainland where you'll continue on route 2A to Essex Junction. The last leg of your trip will be on route 15 northeast back to your starting point of Cambridge.
