owner - Church & Maple Glass

ARTIST STATEMENT

I was blessed with my fathers attention and support and with my siblings tried my hand at many crafts. I was first intrigued with hot glass doing rudimentary flame working with my childhood chemistry set. My father supported and encouraged problem solving, a can-do attitude, and facility with tools. My next exposure to hot glass was as a college student having a summer job in Neurochemistry. There I learned scientific flame working. About 12 years later I helped a friend set up his glass blowing studio and had my first exposure to off-hand glassblowing. Later I began renting studio time and came to the conclusion that I either needed to blow more glass or none at all. I looked for a space to build and discussed endlessly possible scenarios with Rich Arentzen. I found and renovated a building in Burlington, Vt. and with John ChilesŐs expertise built the equipment in Sept. of 1995.
