Barr Family Reunions

2001 Reunion

The weather cooperated and we had a wonderful time at the 2001 reunion which was held in August at Stoughton Pond in Perkinsville, Vermont. On Saturday we all gathered for lunch, business meeting, fund-raising and relaxation. Stoughton Pond has a nice little beach for swimming -- several people took advantage of that -- and the site had all the amenities we needed to be comfortable. There were opportunities for socializing on Friday evening, Saturday evening and Sunday as well.

Last spring while on a trip, June and Russ McCormack tracked down descendants of Marion O'Dell (daughter of Ransom and Maria Barr) in Indiana and Ohio. As a result of that initial contact, fourteen people in the O'Dell family made the trip to Vermont for our reunion. It was such a pleasure to meet them all and we look forward to renewing acquaintances this year in Black Lake, NY.

Other folks attending from distant and not-so-distant places were:
Bruce and Dorothy (Barr) Hinrichs of Green Bay, WI
Caroline Culpepper and daughter Hannah, Alabaster, AL
Bill (Sam) Barr, San Antonio, TX
    Joyce Merriam, Canyon Lake, TX
Emma Whitaker, Julie Harra and Julie's twin boys from Watertown, NY
Janice and Earl Bice (with granddaughters) from Ogdensburg, NY

2002 Reunion

Date:    August 17 and 18, 2002
Place:    McLear's Cottage Colony & Campround, Black Lake, NY
2477 County Rt. 6, Black Lake Rd
            Hammond NY 13646

Contact Mel and Janet McLear to reserve a campsite or cabin. Call 315-375-6508 or e-mail gofishin@mclears.com.

McLear's campground sites and cabins are convenient. If you're looking for other lodgings, however, you may want to try the Quality Inn Gran View (phone 315-393-4550) in Ogdensburg, NY. It is a comfortable place to stay (right on the St. Lawrence River) but requires a 20 - 30 minute drive to reach the reunion site. A motel that's a bit closer is The Windmill in Morristown.

The reunion lunch will be around noon on Saturday, followed by the business meeting and sale. Please bring a dish for the meal and an item for the sale. Every child that attends should also bring an item for the children's drawing. Proceeds from the sale are used to pay lunch expenses, postage costs, tent rental, etc.

Sunday morning breakfast has become a tradition. Again, please bring food to share. You won't go away hungry.
