Presidents Message - Spring 2003

PRESIDENT’S GREETINGS -Frankie Gibson
Today our gardens are resting under a deep blanket of sparkling snow – just waiting to burst forth in blooming splendor this coming spring. We are browsing our garden catalogs, planning ahead. So we plan and look forward to our Club and Federation activities this spring as we “Expand Our Gardening Horizons.”

We celebrated the planting of Grandma and Grandpa’s Garden at the Vermont Community Botanical Gardens with a July Garden Party, ably chaired by Jan DeSarno and Jackie Arbuckle. The same weekend St. Albans Garden Club celebrated their Golden Anniversary with a festive party. Members enjoyed the Fall Board Meeting at the historic Lilac Inn in Brandon and learned the technique of making corsages with the elderly, disabled and handicapped.

I am impressed with the extent of civic involvement of all Federation Clubs. All Clubs participate in civic beautification – a sign that a community is well loved and cared for. The cooperative interaction between club members and community organizations and government is impressive.

We are looking forward to participating in the VT Plantsman Show in Burlington and the Stratton Mountain Flower and Garden Festival in Stratton with a display of What the Garden Club of Today Is!

Do come to the Spring Board Meeting, chaired by Christine Rousseau, in Barre at the VT History Museum. Enjoy a catered luncheon and a delightful program about miniature flower arranging by Betty Barnes. All are welcome to the Annual Meeting, chaired by Rose Boynton, in the elegant Rockwell Room at the historic Equinox Hotel, Manchester, VT. Enjoy a gourmet luncheon and an informative program presented by Ron Krupp about hardy perennials that do well in Vermont, titled “Garden Woes and Delights”.

I salute you Federation members for your dedicated and enthusiastic pursuit of your Garden Clubs’ activities!
