UPCOMING EXHIBITIONS In the summer of 2005, I will be exhibiting my early harps, psalteries & lyres at the Boston Early Music Festival Exhibition, and in Bennington VT at the Amherst Early Music Festival & Instrument Maker's Fair. ABOUT THE WORKSHOP AND EARLY HARPS I founded my first workshop in 1975 in New York City, and in 1980 relocated to Brattleboro, Vermont. My early harps are drawn from museum and iconographic sources. They have joined countless consorts on recordings and on stage, both at home and abroad. I'd like to thank all of you who have included these instruments in your performances. You are the ones who give voice to early music. Among the instruments: the Workshop's austere trademark, the 15th c. harp after Memling (with or without brays. Bray pins are historically documented, but players still have a choice); an elaborately-sculpted bray harp after Bosch; a more rounded shape of harp for 12th-13th-14th c. music, which I call "Romanesque"; porque psaltery (polychrome; double courses) drawn from Beato Angelico; Iberian Harp (harpa de Topaga, Colombia, c. 1650); 12th-century gut-strung "zoomorphic" harp; wire-strung ancient Irish harps; and cythara teutonica from the 6-7th centuries (Germanic lyre with 6 strings, for performance of Beowulf.) HOW TO ORDER Most instruments are built to order. Specifications & price available upon request. Every two years or so, I sell my personal collection of exhibition harps. If you would like to be put on the list for one of these, please call or write. TO VIEW THE PHOTOS Some photos and literature are available by returning to our site directory. ABOUT WOOD COLORS AND FINISHES IN THE PHOTOS When viewing photos of harps, please remember that many natural woods are light in color when first worked. Colors darken and warm over time from normal exposure to air and light. I do not use woodstains to simulate age.
