The Postal Service has all but forgotten the
people who have given so much to our customers.
They are hell bent on sub-contracting, automating
and replacing regular mail handlers with casuals.
To add to our peril, The American Postal Workers
Union continues in their attacks against our
membership and in their attempts to plunder our
work. We are the smallest Union in the Postal
Service, yet we have the loudest voice. Again and
again, the APWU and the Service have tried to
strip us of our jobs. But through knowledge,
unity, and strength we have continually staved
them off.
Here in White River, we realize that the only
way our craft can survive the continual attacks
on our job security is through knowledge,
strength, and team work! In unity we find
strength, in knowledge we find the power to
overcome those who conspire to strip us of our
livelihood.
Some quotes from Mother Jones;
My friends, it is solidarity of labor we want.
We do not want to find fault with each other, but
to solidify our forces and say to each other:
"We must be together; our masters are joined
together and we must do the same thing.
1902, Speaking before the convention of the
UMWA, Indianapolis, IN
"I am not blind to the shortcomings of
our own people. I am not unaware that leaders
betray, and sell out, and play false. But this
knowledge does not outweigh the fact that my
class, the working class, is exploited, driven,
fought back with the weapon of starvation, with
guns and with venal courts whenever they strike
for conditions more human, more civilized for
their children, and for their children's children."
Mother Jones
Brother and Sister Union Members, tougher
times are coming, but be sure the representatives
of this branch are up for the fight! No matter
where or when it comes, we will stand together,
in vigilance and defend your rights! However, we
will need your help. You must continue to
participate, come to the Quarterly Meetings,
advise your stewards of any contractual
violations you observe. Most importantly, stick
together! Always remember, "together we
stand and divided we fall!"
