Mac OS X Panther Hands-On-Training is a book of well thought out tutorials to teach new and intermediate users to use Panther. I was pleased to see that Universal Access and Speech was included in the Basics because the subject is basic for those who need to use it.

I had no problem working through the tutorials using the exercise materials on the CD, and the demo movies add to the clarity of the material.

This book contains more than 80 tutorials that teach you:

  • The Basics: Background, Working with Files and Folders, Using the Dock, System Preferences, Universal Access and Speech, Printing Fonts and Faxing, and Installing Applications
  • Working Online: Getting Online, Safari, Address Book, Mail and iChat AV, Sherlock and Searching Your Mac, and .Mac
  • The Digital Hub: iCal and iSync, iTunes 4, iPhoto 2, iMovie 3, and iDVD 3
  • Networking: Networking

There is a list of online resources and a trouble shooting guide. A dozen short movies demonstrate some of the tutorials. Exercises provide samples to work with including three fonts and a software program to install, pictures, music, and movie clips.

Take your time working through these tutorials. Try using them to fit what you want to do. By the time you finish you should be a comfortable user of Mac OS X: Panther.
