Do What You Never Thought Possible

Some years ago, David Pogue wrote the first editions of the Mac Secrets books, Scott Pelok, who was the guru leading our Northern Vermont Macintosh User Group, and Scott said Mac Secrets was the best reference for Mac users. He referenced it all the time.

Mac OS X Secrets, Panther Edition, by Benjamin Levisay continues this tradition.

It is a comprehensive real world tips based book about using your Macintosh with the latest and greatest version of Mac OS X, as well as with some of the main applications for the Mac.

Benjamin Levisay was a Mac OS 9 expert who has become enthused with the Panther edition of Mac OS X. Like previous authors of Secrets, his writing reflects his own real-world experiences in using a Mac. One of the nice contributions he has made to the style of this book is to include the gist of conversations with his chief editor when their opinions differed.

This book contains basic information, tips, and secrets about Mac OS X Panther, the iLife applications including GarageBand, other major Mac applications. It also covers peripherals and a number of programs Benjamin Levisay believes you might want to use.

In reviewing this book, I was amazed by the breadth of topics and number of tips and Secrets. The Secrets, such as making a pdf contact sheet for your photos, are indexed on the title page of each chapter. But you have to read to find other tips such as the "Insider Insight" about a free Soundtrack Loop Utility available from Apple to convert an audio file into a GarageBand loop.
