This is a book on Photoshop for photographers to show photographers how to use Photoshop in their digital darkroom processing using the techniques and actual values that professional photographers use. This is not a book on how to learn Photoshop, though you will learn quite a bit about it in the process.

I reviewed this book to add to our Northern Vermont Macintosh User Group library. After reading it and doing all the tutorial exercises, I bought a copy for myself.

Scott Kelby has written many books about Photoshop including his original The Photoshop Book for Digital Photographers. Then he wrote The Photoshop Elements Book for Digital Photographers which was tailored to Photoshop Elements users, but included ways to do most things in Photoshop Elements that professional photographers do in Photoshop. (I bought the Photoshop Elements Book for Digital Photographers before I graduated to Photoshop, and I recommend it for Elements users.)

These 'for Digital Photographers" books use the same format for the same purposes, and where Scott Kelby could he used the same words. But, the books are tailored to fit the capabilities of the different Photoshop programs and their somewhat different audiences.

The images are created by Scott Kelby or are from Brand X Pictures and are different in each book. You can practice on your own images or obtain images used in the book from a Web address which is provided. The images are grouped by chapter and ZIP compressed. Images for chapters 3 - 6 total about 6.6 MB so they can be downloaded without a broadband connection.

Photoshop CS for Digital Photographers tells you how acclaimed digital photographers process their images, and solve problems, using Photoshop CS. It gives you the process step by step with the actual values used in each step. Some explanation is provided for the settings used, but if you never learn all the theory, you can get good results using these settings.

One the strengths of this book is in showing you how to make people look a little better and younger. It makes me want to be a bit bolder, and take a lot more pictures, and close-ups, of people.

You will enjoy the magic in Photoshop CS for Digital Photographers .
