New edition of the best-selliing book on Apple iLife
I believe the unique format of Jim Heid's iLife series has a lot to do with it being a best seller. Each individual subject in The Macintosh iLife '06
is covered on a two page spread. It may be a broad subject such as iLife Keeps You Connected including Photocasts, Audio and Video Podcasts, and your own Blog. It may be how to do a process such as importing music from CDs. Or, it may be a more advanced detail such as fine-tuning compression settings. The two page spread avoids long and tiring text, and makes it easy to find what you are looking for.
A second reason why I believe The Macintosh iLife '06
will be another best-selling book is the writing. Millions of photographs lead lives of loneliness, trapped in unorganized boxes where they are never seen.
... Welcome to the Photo Liberation Society.
The writing makes you want to help your photos be seen in their best light, and it provides the information you need to do just that.
The illustrations also help a lot.
Finally, I believe this will be a best selling book because Jim Heid is a teacher and an expert who manages to cover the most interesting, important, and useful information about iLife, iTunes and iPod, iPhoto, iMovie HD, iDVD, and GarageBand, and the new iWeb digital in only 187 two page chapters.
If you want insight into, or to learn to use, all of the iLife tools, I cannot imagine a better book or one that would be easier to use. This is a book i would pick because I do not have enough time to study manuals on each of the iLife tools that I would like to use.
The Macintosh iLife '06
has almost 50 more pages than the previous iLife '05, It no longer has a companion CD, but it does have a companion web page which contains a lot of excellent resources for each of the iLife programs. The companion Web page, http://www.macilife.com, already has some update information on the latest version of iWeb.
I recommend that you check the companion web page even if you do not buy the book. I suspect that, if you do, you will be amazed at how much information is there, and it may increase your desire to own the book.
