Revealing the secrets in Macintosh operating systems has added fun and interest to the Missing Manual books from the beginning. More than any other operating system, the Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard is full of new and enhancing secrets. Naturally, this is the best Mac OS X Missing Manual ever.

Here you will find the information you need about all the features in Leopard and the programs that are included with it.

The major new capabilities in Max OS X Leopard are covered. Probably a lot more people will backup like we should with the new Time Machine. David Pogue will show you how to locate files saved in Time Machine. I am not sure how I would use Spaces virtual screens, Screen Sharing remote control or Automator but with this Missing Manual I could.

David Pogue shows you the secrets about new features that everyone will use. You will wonder how you got by without Quick Look instant document previews. Here you will learn the secrets that enable you to get more value out of this wonderful feature. Spotlight will be much more useful in Leopard. With the Missing Manual you should be able to find anything almost anywhere. You may also use the shortcuts to speed things like launching programs.

A little secret from the book. Copy a word like schadenfreude. Click Command-Space. It will open up Spotlight. Paste in the word, schadenfreude. Spotlight will show the definition. When I did it I also found an article by David Pogue where he had used this example.

The Missing Manual: Mac OS X Leopard Edition contains information about the 50 or so programs that come with Leopard. New features he described in TextEdit make it a much more powerful word processor with some features like autosave that I wish were in Pages. You will probably be enticed to use more of these programs by their new features and with these instructions.

This is a comprehensive manual. You are not expected to read almost 900 pages cover to cover. But, when you read about the services you are now using, you are almost sure to find secrets to use them better. And, when you look up something you need to know, or something new that might be interesting, you will find that the author has made the effort to make the reading easier and the subject clearer.
