Carol Gifford, DVM

Dr. Gifford graduated from veterinary school in 1987 and moved to Rutland, Vermont. After practicing in another clinic, Dr. Gifford started the Riverside Pet Hospital in 1991. She is a solo practitioner, specializing in preventative health care for household pets.

Liz Crunden, Veterinary Technician

Liz has been with us for over three years. Originally from Connecticut, Liz graduated as a  veterinary technician from the Vermont Technical College, in Randolph, in 1996. Liz is one of Dr. Gifford's assistant during surgery, monitoring each patient during the procedure and during the time the patient is waking up from anesthetic. Liz is also fully qualified to perform routine dental cleanings, as well as perform blood analysis and other laboratory procedures.

Becky Piteau, Receptionist

Becky joined Riverside in July, 1996. As our receptionist, Becky ensures  that the reception area runs smoothly and efficiently. She also lives at the facility and checks on the hospitalized animals at night.  She also assists with late night emergencies.  Becky has been with us 3 years.  Becky has two dogs of her own; Sam and Blue.

Linda Schaffner, Veterinary Technician

Linda has been associated with Riverside Pet Hospital as a part time employee since we expanded in 1994. She works as both a receptionist and animal care technician.  When not looking after the patients at Riverside, Linda is busy running Wunderland Pet Lodge,  boarding kennel she co-owns,  located in Clarendon, VT. Linda has two dogs, Bocca and Sherman, and 3 cats.

Linda Long, Groomer

Linda has been grooming at Riverside since before it was Riverside Pet Hospital. In fact, she's been with the clinic since it opened on Allen Street in 1991. Linda has been grooming cats and dogs professionally for more than 14 years. Among the many grooming services Linda performs, she keeps Dr. Gifford informed of any abnormalities she may spot on the animals' skin, ears, and so forth. Linda has two dogs, named Emma and and a new Bull Mastiff, along with two cats.

Larry Loomis, Veterinary Technician

Larry has been involved in animal care for the last 10 years.  After working at Riverside part-time, Larry became a full time staff member in the summer of 1999.  Larry has a husky named Sly, a chihuahua named Rocky, and a pet pigeon he calls Seven.

Elaine Hayes, Veterinary Technician

Elaine, our other veterinary technician, is a graduate of the Vermont Technical College with a degree in veterninary technology.  She has worked as a vet. tech. for the past 10 years and recently joined the staff at Riverside.  Elaine has a cocker spaniel named Coco.
