The Riverside Pet Hospital was founded in 1991 with the goal of providing the best veterinary care possible to the companion animals in the Rutland area. Dr. Carol Gifford, the owner of the clinic, is a 1987 graduate of the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine, in Blacksburg, Virginia. She is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, and the Vermont Veterinary Medical Association. Dr. Gifford has been practicing in Rutland, Vermont, since her graduation, and has a good understanding of the veterinary care needs of the community.

Riverside Pet Hospital first opened its doors in a small building on Allen Street in 1991. Within three years, the practice had outgrown this facility, and moved to its current location on River Street. Thanks to the help of many wonderful friends and clients, Riverside opened its doors at its new location in February, 1994.

From its early days, when the staff consisted of Dr. Gifford and a receptionist/technician, the staff has grown to a staff of 8 full and part time animal care professionals. Between them, they have many years of practical animal care experience.

Riverside is a full service veterinary clinic. Besides providing routine care and surgery, Riverside offers state of the art radiology, on site blood analysis, ultrasonic dental scaling and polishing, full surgical capabilities, and 24 hour emergency care. Additionally, Dr. Gifford is a member of the Network Of Animal Health, an on-line community comprised of veterinarians throughout the world. Through NOAH, Dr. Gifford has access to the most recent research information and techniques, as well as the ability to communicate with other general practitioners and veterinary specialists. Many animals have benefited from Dr. Gifford’s ability to get consultations from the best specialists and scholars in the country.

The commitment to animal care does not stop with the patients of Riverside Pet Hospital. The clinic welcomes tours from local schools and pre-schools, Head Start, Brownies and Cub Scouts. The clinic also is actively involved with the local high schools, by allowing students to observe and volunteer their time as part of their academic curriculum.
