AF reported on the School Forest Committee: Karen Saunders¹ class surveyed 174 people about their uses and knowledge of the
forest. 89% of respondents had heard of the forest. 71% said they¹d been in the Forest. 49% think the town owns forest; 40% think the Putney Pool Assn owns the forest.  Only  .6% of the respondents think the school owns the forest. We need to educate people about the Forest. The School Forest Committee achieved its goal of raising $1000. Thanks to individuals and businesses who contributed. Fifteen students went out into the forest for the Winter Sports on-campus program.  There¹s been a second incident of vandalism where displays were ripped off the Forest kiosk for the second time.  The board approved the committee issuing a reward which would lead (PFS) to finding the person/people responsible.

AF also reported that Putney Family Services hosted a meeting about early care and education in Putney on Feb 19.  At that meeting it was reported that the United Church of Putney decided against offering the church space for use of a child care center. PFS is still exploring other potential sites for the child care center. No more meetings have been planned but AF will stay in contact with PFS on this issue.

There will be a math night (called Putney Pi) on March 14 for parents and students in grades 5-8.  Games and food (with a math theme) will be offered.

AS submitted the School Quality Standards report to the Dept. of Education at the end of February. A a copy of the report is in the Minutes binder in the school office.

AS is following up with a consultant of the Vermont School Board Association to conduct a free school energy audit.

The School Climate survey will go out in next week¹s newsletter. It will also be posted electronically.

AS reported that she is in conversation with staff about continuing staff support of the Asian Studies program. In past years Gerry
Gatz had taken primary responsibility for coordinating the program at the school but he is retiring after this school year. Gerry has offered to
continue to provide some assistance to the program after he retires.  AS reported that there is an active Asian Studies Committee which supports the Coordinator.  AS will keep the board updated on the status of a coordinator for the program.

AS reported that a few more Westminster middleschool students have expressed interest in attending PCS next year. The school
receives about $9,500 for each tuitioned middle school student.

NECAP Paul Smith Distributed NECAP assessments of PCS students. In October, students in grades 3-8 were tested in reading and math. Fifth and 8th graders were also tested in writing.   The results of this test are used to determine the school¹s Adequate Yearly Progress.   Paul stressed that these test results are a snapshot picture of how students are doing. While the results are used by teachers and administrators to develop and modify curriculum, the results should not be used as a basis for all decisions made about curriculum and student learning.   A summary of the NECAP results (aggregated for the school) are attached to the minutes in the Minutes binder in the school office. Individual student test results will be sent home with the winter session report cards.

Enrichment: AS reported that she will follow up with staff on the enrichment discussion and stressed that enrichment activities will need to be incorporated in classrooms.

Town meeting: PM will present the budget information and AF will make a statement about the wonderful volunteerism in the school
