Rensselaer, New York is exploring a plan to install a fiber optics network across the city for faster internet access to entice new business and real estate development.
The plan comes as SUNY Polytechnic Institute considers an expansion of its own that would bring high-tech jobs and housing to Rensselaer’s Hudson River waterfront. City officials approved preliminary plans for the school’s project Monday. SUNY Poly’s expansion would be located on property where developers made an unsuccessful bid last year for a Hard Rock Casino.
