This is what I sent to the NanciNet and some of what the people wrote to me

Subject: My fantasy ....came true
Hi, I'm Kirsten. My birthday was 4 weeks ago. I heard Nanci 's music 7
years ago. I'm now eleven. I know Dad has been on the NanciNet for awhile
and he has said things about me. I promised Mark I would write a little
something myself.
When I was 5, my dad bought two tickets to the concert in Putney, Vermont 6
years ago. My mom was supposed to go, and my dad, but my mom got sick.
Since I liked Nanci so much, and dad had an extra ticket, he brought me to
it. Everybody was surprised to see a 5 year old girl there. I really
enjoyed the concert, sitting on dads lap and singing at the same time.
At the end of the concert, we had to walk in back of the building near the
loading dock and there was Nanci standing right there. I ran to say hi to
her. I was kind of shy. On her back she had a case full of Netendo games.
We started talking for a bit and she said someday maybe I could play it with
her. Remember on One Fair summer evening she talked about her great aunt
Nettie Mae not wanting to go to sleep at night? Well, I had a good
impression of her saying "and by golly she didn't wanna live in Oklahoma!,
and I said that to her. That made her laugh so hard. Dad handed me a tape
of hers for her to sign for me and she signed "To Kirsten in Vermont, Not in
Oklahoma" I call that our thing now, because a lot of times when I write
to her, I write "see you down the road, not in Oklahoma".
A few days after the concert, I asked dad if I could write to her, but I
didn't until just before she had another concert in Putney a year later. I
asked dad if I could get her something. He said what should you give her?
I said, "maybe Maple Syrup from VERMONT"? I would give it to her when
everybody gave her flowers. So there I was, 6 years old and doing the same
thing, sitting on dad's lap and singing. This time the first song Nanci
sang was dedicated to me. I really enjoyed that. When I brought up the
maple syrup, she said "Hi Kirsten!" and hugged the maple syrup. There was a
man who gave her flowers that asked me in surprise, "WHAT did you GIVE her?
My answer was maple syrup. He thought it was the maple syrup that made her
say Hi, but it was friendship. At the end of the concert we sat there
waiting while dad got the car. Suddenly, I saw Pat. I ran to him and said
"may I please see Nanci, she's my friend?" He said, "well, she's kind of
busy" and then paused. Then said, "well, if your parents don't mind
waiting, she's getting dressed right now"? Just right now, I was jumping up
and down, I was so excited. Pat led us downstairs to a room and I met
Nanci. When we were talking, I told her about how the kids at school picked
on me because I sang too loud. and Nanci said that I should "keep on
singing, cause when she was in school, they used to pick on saying her voice
didn't blllleeeennnddd. When we were walking away back to the car, she
yelled, "Kirsten?". I turned around. "see you on TV, (with a big smile)
not in Oklahoma". I smiled back.
I saw her again at Stratton Mountain, and also at Tanglewood on the fourth
of July. I still gave her maple syrup at each place. In Stratton, just
before she sang "Love at the Five and Dime", she said this song was for "my
little friend Kirsten, this little girl can tell you where everything IS in
the five and dime". She made me feel kinda special and very excited both at
the same time. In Tanglewood, when I gave it to her, she said on the
microphone "Hi Miss Kirsten!". As I gave her the maple syrup, I asked her
if I could see her after. She said "sure thing" and nodded her head. After
the concert, the fireworks began. They were BIG. You know how fireworks
come right at your face? I was kind of scared because that happened. I
thought it was neat.
Finally the fireworks were over and I saw Nanci
outside. We talked for a bit, and she was very sorry that I couldn't see
her for long. At least I think she was. She said to me "next spring when
I'm here, we should get together before the concert and do a little
singing". I have so many feelings, I forgot how excited I was.
There's even more special and exciting things I would like to share, but I'm
in dads office and we have to go home right now to eat supper. I hope you
all don't mind how long this is. I'll try to post the rest of my fantasy soon
Thank you kindly
Kirsten

I'm sitting here absolutely amazed by Kirsten's posting--not just her story,
though I admit that's pretty amazing and wonderful (I wonder how many of us
are wishing we were cute and five again. I wonder how many of us are
wishing Nanci's music was around when we were five!). What amazes me is
Kirsten's ability to relate a story, to recall such details.
And, Kirsten, if you were there at the computer keyboard pounding away, I'm
even more impressed. Even many of the college students I teach can't write
like that (pretty sophistic syntax for an eleven-year-old).
So, Kirsten, I'll see you in print--not in Oklahoma.

Kirsten,
I was curious how you got to be such good friends with Nanci. Thanks for the
nice story. I can't wait for chapter two.
Garison,
P.S. I'm the guy at the Cape Cod concert who asked you to tell Nanci I wanted
to marry her. I was reeling from the wonderful show and the chance to touch
her shoulder when you both ran by me. I'll settle for dinner.
God Bless

That's a wonderful story, Kirsten! You're a great storyteller, and your
writing is really good -- especially for an 11-year-old. I think you've
got a special gift.
The first part wasn't long at all. In fact, it was too short. We'd all
love to hear some more of your stories. :-)
Take care,

Hi there Kirsten,
That was a wonderful story, and beautifully expressed, you sound like
a fine young lady and I'm sure your Dad (hi Rob!)is an extremely
proud man.
My 5 year old daughter, Katy, will be attending her first Nanci
concert in 9 days time (8th October), she loves Nanci's music and has
a go at singing any of the songs, but needs a little work on getting
all the notes just right. We've got front row, centre tickets, so
Katy will get a great view.
Anyway, keep up the writing, and I'll look forward to hearing the
next chapter.
Colin

Kirsten,
Your story was wonderful! I'm betting everybody on the NanciNet just loved
it.
However, I think you mislabeled it (in the story part, not the heading): it
wasn't a fantasy, but a true story. You have the makings of a first rate
storyteller... or a songwriter(?) Keep at it!
We'll be waiting for more!
Mike C.
