Hi:

Kirsten here again. This is going to be my second part of my fantasy. I sent my first one last year. Thankyou all who wrote to me last time.

I ended last time with Nanci and I at Tanglewood watching the fireworks after her concert. >Finally the fireworks were over and I saw Nanci outside. We talked for a bit, and she was very sorry that I couldn't see her for long. At least I think she was. She said to me "next spring when I'm here, we should get together before the concert and do a little singing"< Here's the rest.

The next spring (1995) I called her management company to ask her if we could do what she said a couple of weeks later, when she was singing near my area. The man I talked to said he would tell her. A week later, the man didn't answer, so I called back. I told him the same thing. This time he asked "will Nanci remember you?". I said. "YES! She's my friend". I was sorta shocked but I understood. Then he said, "I have her call you back". I was very, very surprised because Nanci has never sent me anything before or called me before. She didn't call, but a lady named Kathi did. Kathi said that Nanci said "sure, that would be a hoot! Tell Kirsten any of the shows would be fine". There were three shows in my area. We picked Boston Symphony Hall. Image She also was kind enough to give us the tickets free. I also met Hook around this time on the NanciNet. I was asking him about a gift for Nanci. I found out she didn't have pierced ears. (Mr. Hooker is such a nice, handsome, strapping young man, I found out later.) A couple of weeks later we travelled to Boston. We met Nineyear at the backstage door. (Remember for later, I had just been eating malt balls and soda). He took us upstairs through the back and into the hall. He said "Nanci knows Kirsten is here. She's dressing and getting ready. She'll be out in a minute". We waited in the seats but I was thrilled and just couldn't sit in my seat. I just had to look around. A few minutes later, I saw Nanci on the stage. She came down and ran to hug me. I ran to hug her too. You know how it is when you have family far away and you just see them again. It felt like that. After we hugged, she asked me "Kirsten, what song do you want to sing tonight. Do you want to sing Trouble in the Fields". I said: "I don't really know that one well". She said: "How about It's a Hard Life". I said: "Yeah, I practiced that one". She said: "O.K. I tell ya what we are going to do. We are going to set up a mic that is the size for you. You will come up with me and sing it now. Then you will come up and sing it with me tonight, will you?". Oh... my... gosh!!!! I didn't think I was THAT good! "Sure!!", I said, shaking. My dad thinks he said to her "are you sure", but he can't remember. I got the gift that Jame's helped me on, from the seat and gave it to her. It was a real silver brooch with a picture of the two of us together, taken at Tanglewood. She was thrilled and she said: "Come with me. I have a present for you too", looking at my sister also. We both came and followed her out the hall into the lobby. She told us we could have whatever we wanted from her marketing table. She called it "swag"," when you get free stuff at concerts". After that, she took me to her dressing room and we talked. She was showing me around and she had a cute little dog named Pops. My sister adored him and he jumped all over her. Nanci was trying to calm him down but he wouldn't stop. All during this time, I was beginning to feel just a "little bit sick".

Image We came out on stage to do the practice. We were walking onto the stage and I met the band. I gave James a little teddy bear and t-shirt for helping me get Nanci's gift. Nanci said: "You didn't need to go all out for us". I said: "Dad said since you were paying for the tickets, dad would use the money that he would be paying for you, so I didn't need to worry" Then the band started to laugh! I think I embarrassed dad. We were getting ready to sing but I needed to use the bathroom, because I was getting more nervous. When I came back, Nanci was looking for me in her dressing room because there is a bathroom there. But I went all the way through the hall to the bathroom on the other side. Nanci went looking there too. I walked onto the stage looking for Nanci and she was at the bathroom looking for me! Finally she found me and we started to practice. During the time we were singing, Nanci stopped and said to the sound man "Give me more of Kirsten". I was surprised she would want more of me. When we were finished singing, dad came and took me off the stage. As we were walking to sit down Nanci turned around to the band and said "Isn't she great? It's like singing with myself" They played one more song, This Heart. It ended so soon and Nanci said she would see me at the concert and she went back to eat supper. We waited there and walked around but I felt so, so, sick. Dad was worried. I guess he was. I said "Dad, does soda and malted balls mix?". Oh my gosh!, dad said. I felt so sick, the rest of it is just a blur until we sat down to watch the concert.

I feel asleep through half of it. Then it was time. I was on dad's lap. He picked me up and walked with me, gently holding me by my shoulders to the lobby where we met Nineyear. He asked dad, " is she sick"? Dad said, "yeah, she's really nervous". "Let's go back and get her something to drink and calm down" said Nine. I was sitting on the couch, on one side of the backstage, and dad said, "are you sure you don't want to do this"? "I'm sure", I said, very disappointedly. "Thirty seconds Miss Kirsten!" said Nine. "Oh no!.." I thought. Dad said,"come on Kirst". "I don't want to go! I don't want to go! I don't want to go!..... We started walking to the other side. I was pulling back. Dad said, "Kirsten, I know you can do it, if you did the Lip Sync concert in Brattleboro High School, you can do it here". "But that was different dad!" This is so much bigger!". "Please", dad said, "you can do it" "you just have to try". "Just think that you are up there singing with your friend Nanci, and forget that there are people there. Nanci loves you. Don't worry about the people. It will be really neat for Nanci and it will really be good for you". I said, "but I can't!" I pulled back, and stopped walking completely. I looked into dad's eyes. I saw a pleading look, (he says it was an encouraging look) "It's o.k., let's go to the door and you can tell Nanci, she will understand", he said.. "O.K.! I'll do it!. "I can do it Dad" "I'm ready!" We got to the door on the other side. Nineyear was there waiting, looking out the crack of the door and dad asked, "are you sure Kirsten, are you sure you are going to be o.k."? "I can do it dad! I'm sure Dad...I'm O.K." I said over all the applause noise. Dad said "I'll be right back to meet you, don't worry" Then he kissed me. Then he tapped Nine on the shoulder and said "She's o.k. she's ready", and he left.

Nine opened the door and Nanci came back. "Are you ready!" she asked smiling. "Yep, I'm ready!" Nanci looked into the mirror right by the door and saw that her barrette was falling out. There was a brush by the mirror and she took it out and started to brush her hair. Suddenly it got stuck! "It's stuck..somebody help!" Nine was there trying to get it out and so was another man, I didn't get to know. A second later they got it out. "Come on!" Nanci said, as I followed her out onto the stage with screaming and yelling applause. "OHHHHH MYYYY GOOOOSSSHHHH!!!!!!!! I felt, excitedly. I had so many feelings at one time I don't know how many I even had. Nanci was placing me to the mic. "Don't forget to sing I was a child of the nineties when I say sixties" she said. "O.K. I got it". We sang beautifully, not forgetting one thing. While I was singing, I saw dad's camera light and the glass lens reflecting the light. Soon we finished the song. A lot of people stood up and clapped. Nanci put her hands around me. Image She said thanks to everybody. Then I asked her, "should I go out the door"? "YYYeeeppp!, she said" in her accent, smiling. She followed me back and so did James, Lee and Sara. Sara Hickman sang before Nanci and also backed us up on Hard Life. Nanci and everybody seemed to be praising me. Nanci said "GOOD JOB!" Sara bowed up and down with her hands out, saying "Hail Kirsten!". James said, "Now I've finally found a date!". (You will read about our real date soon because I won't be able to write everything tonight). Dad came in and gave me an incredibly big hug and said "I love you". Nanci had to finish her last song, so me and dad went back to the hall, we never did make it back to the seats, because it was the last encore. After the concert, we went back to visit before we went home. Nanci brought out Pops and he was jumping all over the place. Well over us. Mr. Hooker poured Meggie and I a soda. He said "I have to make it exactly even because I always do it with my younger daughters so they don't fight". He looked like he was a scientist, you know, measuring everything perfectly. Nanci gave me a book called Yoga for Bears. It's a very cute book. She said she always read it when she was nervous. She had to go because she wanted to go to bed. She had slept in the bus alot, so this was a night where she had a bed. I gave her a hug and she gave me one and we said goodbye. When she walked down the hall, halfway, she turned around and said, "Remember Kirsten,.. I love you". I felt very special inside. I love her too.

I was still a little bit sick, from being so nervous. I said goodbye to some of the band and James before we left. Then we walked down the stairs to the stage door. There was a LOT of people there hoping to see Nanci. As soon as they saw me, someone yelled, "there she is". Another person said "she looks just like her". Dad put my jacket on and we started walking outside. The people separated, and we walked through them across the street. They were all clapping. Later in the hotel we stayed at, dad asked me, "What did you think about the people at the stage door?" I said "dad, why were the people clapping"? He looked at me funny. "They were clapping for you sweetheart". Wow!.. I never realized that.

It will always be a treasured night.

There's more in the future, but it's late and dad and I wan't to watch a movie. Dad made a web page for me. If you want, come and visit anytime. I'm sorry this is soooo long.

Thank you kindly,

Miss Kirsten (Nanci calls me that sometimes)
