Hi guys,
Kirsten here. With all negative stuff recently, I thought I'd write something fun and positive to take your minds off of it a bit.
The first time I wrote, was about the first time I met Nanci and at concerts. The second time was about the first time I sang with her at Boston Symphony Hall. After I finish this chapter, there will be seven more chapters to go so far. I hope I can get them all finished and write a book. :-})
A while after Boston Symphony Hall (BSH) which was in April, dad wanted to help James make a website as a way of helping him because he was so nice to me. So we planned to meet up with James around July. So we started our long, long journey, just me and dad. On the way to Nashville, we met up with Noelle. She is now going to have a baby on September 2nd, which is my Birthday. Noelle was on the NanciNet a year ago. She a very sweet lady and a good friend, but that was the first time we met. We will meet her again in chapter 8.
That night we were talking about BSH to Noelle and her husband Harrison. After awhile of talking I started feeling sick. I thought I was sick because we were talking about BSH. That night I got very sick and it still gave me the creeps..but dad said this night he thought I was sick because I ate junk food on the trip. Noelle gave me a blanket and some medicine and it seemed to calm down my stomach and we drove south.
Around five in the morning dad stopped the car at a rest area in Tennessee and we slept until around 7 or 8. Finally, we got to Nashville and stayed at Clubhouse Inn downtown. James emailed us before we had our trip that Nanci would have invited us to stay at her place, except that the guest room was being fixed. :-( We arrived at our hotel at 11:30 and we would meet James and the band at 12:00 noon. So we got ready, cleaned up, dressed in clean cloths and rushed to find the studio. We were driving around the same place saying where the heck is this. It was sort of like in an industrial neighborhood. We had the street number, but there wasn't a place except a very junky looking building with cars parked in front of it. Boy did it look junky on the outside. Me and dad finally dared to go walk in the back and find out if that was the place. It was!
Inside, was like one house connected to another and you had to get to the other part by going outside. One house had a small bathroom, a place to sit where there was a grand piano, a half a kitchen and a studio. The other kind of house was the place that they had the recording equipment and all those buttons to press. When we came in Bruce said we could take a peek in the studio. I said "Hi" to Nanci and she said "Hi Kirsten" back, but I didn't want to disturb them long, so I closed the door. We went into the control place. Boy was it a lot fancier looking then in the studio part house.
We hadn't had anything to eat and Bruce said to go to the Suttler which was nearby to get corn fritters. Boy were they good! Then we came back for the rest of the afternoon. The first time when they finished a recording, we were in the control room. You also listen to the recording after in this room to see if it's o.k. Dad and I were there with the band and Nanci walked in. "Opps, nobody say the 'F' word, Kirsten's here!" she said. Everyone started laughing. One time when Nanci and the band came out after they finished a recording to listen to it in the control room I saw Nanci brushing her teeth...she was talking at the same time and she sounded funny.
In the afternoon, the band left except for Nanci. She was patching up a few mistakes on those songs she did that day, we went to our hotel room and got a bit of rest. We were waiting for James to come and have some dinner downstairs. We also found out that night it was James' birthday. So we had a nice birthday with him. Dad and James worked in our room on James' computer and his website pretty late, while I was sleeping in bed.
We slept kind of late but we were able to get breakfast at the Pancake Pantry. We heard it was Garth Brooks favorite restaurant from a man at Nanci's management company. We had gone there before we ate. Then we went to the studio again. In the late afternoon, I felt cold from too much air conditioning, so I sat in a chair outside on the patio. When Nanci walked out to get into the other room, she saw me and warned me "Kirsten, I wouldn't sit in the sun if I were you, because I did that once, and now I have a ton of freckles". I said "well, I'll just stay here for a little bit". The last few minutes that we were in the studio I gave Nanci a small present and a card. She said thankyou and gave me a hug. She said "and I have something for you too. Follow me". I followed her into the living room place and she gave me a poster of her upcoming London concert at Royal Alpert Hall.
I also saw Nineyear those couple of days. I wouldn't want to exclude him in the story. He's a nice friend. Bruce did a nice thing for us. After we all left the studio, he gave us a backstage tour of the Ryman Auditorium. Then dad and I drove to James house in Alabama. We stopped for dinner at a fried chicken place in Franklin, which is along the way. We drove down to Jame's house that night singing the songs Nanci recorded those days. I will never forget it. When we got to James' we had a nice visit and went to bed.
The whole next day, dad and James worked on his website. I played with Brinna and Jamie, his two daughters. Brinna was 8 and Jamie was 6. We had fun riding bikes and eating watermelons. We had great fun that whole time. The next day dad and James finished his site and we left to drive home. Sad but true, vacations have to end!
We drove all day and into the night and arrived at Noelle's house at 2 in the morning and slept. The next morning Noelle cooked up the best darn blueberry waffles I ever had. We had a nice breakfast together but even that had to end, and we drove the rest of the way home. Boy did we have fun....dad's tire went flat just before we got home.
One the way home from there to here, we sang Nanci's new songs again. One of them, James' says he thinks will definately be on the new album.
That whole trip with dad was great and I will always remember that summer.
Love
Miss Kirsten "Child of the Ninties"
