This album's production is very different from what Nanci's fans may be
accustomed to. It features a full orchestra in addition to the usual
contingent of backup musicians -- a far cry from her early sound. While
it generated some controversy among her fans, many love the change of pace
and Nanci herself is in fine voice. The songs are generally good; the
title track and "Down 'N' Outer" are outstanding. Nanci's cover of Tom
Waits' "San Diego Serenade" is most enjoyable. This disc proves that
Nanci can explore new styles and sounds without fear of failure.
