Nanci Griffith

Poet in My Window

Poet in My Window
(Featherbed 1982, Philo/Rounder 1986)

A gorgeous record; Nanci finds her unique vocal style and delivers a batch of smooth, sweet ballads. There's more of a country feel here, with pedal steel guitar and drums on a few tracks. Her recurring theme of a solitary life on the road is exemplified in "Workin' in Corners." "You Can't Go Home Again" is one of the most beautiful songs she's ever written. Eric Taylor's melodic bass playing gives the songs added appeal. If you're looking for truly beautiful music, this is it.
