The TkBible Home Page

So your first question is probably, "What is TkBible anyway?" TkBible is really just a simple interface to the BRS (Bible Retrieval System) bible software for UNIX operating systems. TkBible is written in the Tcl/Tk programming language and allows you to use the BRS software through an easy to use X11 based interface, instead of the command line interface that BRS comes with.

News

12-30-1999 - I will not be working on tkBible any more. I will leave this site in place as a reference for people who want to use the code I have written. Anyone is welcome to take over the tkBible code and continue to improve it etc. Just email me if you are interested in doing this.

9-24-1999 - tkbible 0.03 uploaded! Easy install script plus user custom configuration interface. Just follow the new directions below.

9-21-1999 - tkbible 0.02 uploaded! Now we have multi-word boolean search features (this requires /bin/sh on your system).

Installation

To use TkBible, you must first have a properly installed copy of BRS. Download the compressed archive file. Untar/zip it into a suitable place. I suggest installing tkbible as root. Now go to the new directory and run the install script (you may use wish install or /usr/bin/wish install as well.) You will be presented with an install interface prompting you for program locations, etc. When everything is properly defined click install. Now you should be ready to use it!

As a sidenote, tkBible keeps user configuration information in a file called .tkbible.conf in the users home directory

The interface should be pretty intuative. If you have problems or bugs to report, or you would like to help work on the tk/brs software, you can email me at jakesen@altavista.com.

The compressed archive containing the newest version of TkBible is here: tkbible-0.03.tar.gz

You can get the BRS source package here:brs.4.00.l1.tar.gz
