Child Care Information Center

hub for chiuld care related information.
National
Network for Childcare
The National Network for Childcare has created this site which
features over 1000 publications that target both parents and parent
educators. A discussion group called Kidcare, a newsletter that
features three sections (family care, child care centers, and
school age), and information about the NNCC comprise this site.
Parent educators can also utilize a funding links page to review
resources for funding through the Department of Education, Office
of Juvenile Justice, and Delinquency Prevention, etc.

Very useful page for both parents and parent educators! The family links page provides links on topics such as human development, parenting education, relationships, and family resource management, to name a few. The links were selected based upon research criteria, which is explained in detail under "evaluation criteria," and "research basis for education." There is a learning activities page with activities for the family (storytelling, games, etc.). Information is provided to parent educators to assist in their work with families (e.g., citations, explanations regarding the research basis of information provided, how to use materials in different settings). There is a job find for parent educators also!
National Parent Information Network
The site contains information of interest to parent educators, such as full text publications on a variety of parent education related topics, and reviews and abstracts of resources (books and programs) for the parent educator. In addition, it features a monthly electronic newsletter called Parent News, with archives dating back to 1995. The calendar features conferences and workshops of interest to parent educators.
Colorado Parent Information and Resource Center
The Colorado Parent Information and Resource Center, which is funded by the Department of Education's Goals 2000 Educate America Act, produces this web page. This page contains great tips, resources and links for parent educators, as well as parents. It contains information on developing parent-professional partnerships, and has a research section on parent involvement [in their childrens education].
U.S. Department of Education Publications
The Department of Education's mission and goals are provided in this site. There is a news section that provides information about funding opportunities, press releases, and updates on current legislation and budget. The Money Matters section contains information about applying for grants and contracts. The GOALS 2000 and IDEA are addressed here. An Education Directory is available to identify resources and services within a particular area. The segment titled, "Publications" features full text Dept of Education publications including newsletters, journals, reports, research, statistics, and a database of ERIC publications.
The Cooperative Extension Service publishes this page. Links for children, youth, and family professionals are provided here. "Especially for Parents" features a report about a parent education model, among other links on a variety of parenting topics. The kids' section features links for kids. Also of interest are the six project areas that are part of the USDA's CYFAR initiative. These include health, child care, collaborations, family strength, science & technology, and community based programs, which the visitor can link directly into.
National Association for the Education of Young Children
The NAEYC is an organization of early childhood professionals dedicated to improving the quality of early childhood education programs for children birth through age eight. This site offers resources, newsletters, and information for both parents and parent educators about child education programs, and has a locator to search for accredited programs nationwide.
National Extension Parent Education Model
This is an electronic version of a parent education model developed by Charles A. Smith from Kansas State University, et al. This full text report outlines a model of parent education that is intended to provide common ground for extension professionals throughout the Cooperative Extension System. Easy to access.
Handsnet is a web site that serves to link human service organizations online. You must become a member to access all of it's services, but it does provide links to various human service organizations which might be helpful to parent educators. It also highlights legislation and issues affecting human services organizations.
Information about the National Parent Teacher Association can be located here. This site contains information about PTA's history, current legislative activity, programs that the PTA is involved with, links to state PTA groups and other child advocacy organizations, as well as discussion groups.
Children, Youth and Family Consortium
The Table of Contents section provides a wealth of links, articles, and publications on parenting related issues for parents, parent educators, and education personnel, as well as information about the CYFC. Also hosts the site, FatherNet.
National Committee to Prevent Child Abuse
This site contains facts and statistics about child abuse, reviews programs, resources, and research on child abuse. It contains a few parenting tips on child abuse related issues. There's a prevention packet for parents, which includes activities for parents and children. It also has a directory of state chapters on child abuse prevention.
National Network for Family Resiliency
This page has links to Cyfernet. Each section of this page is comprised of NNFR resources and Cyfernet resources. Articles are beneficial to families and teens with such topics as adolescent sexuality, family economics, and parenting education. There is an interactive step-by-step model under "Evaluation & Parent Education" that helps parent educators plan effective programs for parents, along with a report detailing the evaluation model. Funding opportunities exist on this page, but are not easily located!
Originating out of Ventura County, California, this page features information about a program called "Redirecting Children's Behavior" that is sponsored by the International Network for Children and Families. The program offers training sessions to train individuals to become trainers in their community. It contains a list of classes for different states, as well as an index listing trained trainers in each state. Aside from the program promotion, it does offer newsletter and feature articles, a marketplace of books and products to purchase, a chat room, and a page in Spanish.
School Psychology Resources Online
Links for the school psychology community can be located here! Links are divided into categories of specific conditions, disorders, and disabilities, as well as other school psychology related issues.
Parents as Teachers National Center, Inc.
Information about the Parents as Teachers program and how parental involvement in the PAT program can benefit children can be found at this web site. It also features training information and a form to fill out to obtain more information about the project.
This site provides background on the NIH in Bethesda, Maryland. It contains current and past archives of news releases and events. The health information page contains quite a few consumer, physician, and researcher related reports on various health issues. There is a grants and contracts page that has information on funding opportunities, award data, etc.
Maternal and Child Health Bureau
The page provides information about the bureau and has information, applications, and instructions for funding opportunities for child and maternal health related grants. The publications section provides abstracts and ordering information about MCHB publications (videos and reports; both consumer oriented and professional), and advertises publications in foreign languages such as Vietnamese, Chinese, etc. Most of the publications were free. There is also a links page for related sites.
Information related to the Justice Information Center can be found here. It provides copies of reports in a variety of areas, such as juvenile justice, drugs & crime, statistics, research, etc. There is also information on funding opportunities also.
The Administration for Children and Families
Parent educators can search this site for fact sheets and information about different health and human services agencies, such as Head Start, Children's Bureau, etc.
American Academy of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry
The Facts For Families section is of special interest to parent educators and to parents. It contains articles/fact sheets related to a variety of concerns, such as manic depression, sleep problems, eating disorders, etc. These articles are also available in Spanish and in French. The remainder of the site is mostly intended for the mental health professional.
US Department of Health and Human Services
This site provides information about the DHHS and it's activities. It also hosts the Healthfinder site, which contains the most information related to parenting issues. Using the search engine, the browser can locate information on funding opportunities.
The Educational Resources Information Center (ERIC) serves as an online clearinghouse to provide education related information to teachers and other education professionals. The Virtual Library features lesson plans submitted by educators which are grouped by subject, resources for educators, a conference calendar, a listserv database, among other features. There's also a question and answer department to provide additional assistance.
